What started as a school project, Joel Spitzer made his first smoking prevention presentation in August 1971. Between 1972 to 1978 Joel worked as a volunteer smoking prevention speaker for the American Cancer Society, in the Chicago Unit of the Illinois Division.

He continued conducting smoking prevention programs from 1978 to July of 2000 while working for the Good Health Program of Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie, Illinois. He also conducted single-session smoking education programs aimed at helping smokers quit.

Over his career, Joel presented more than 690 single-sesssion programs to approximately 100,000 children and adults. Below is a listing of program sites.
