Health care professionals know that quitting smoking is one of the best things their patients can do to improve their health and quality of life. But often, when alerting patients to existing problems or long-term consequences caused by their smoking, these warnings go unheeded.

The frustration this creates has led many health care professionals to stop trying to educate their patients because they feel it is a futile effort. The fact is you can make a difference. Studies have shown that patients do hear messages from their health care providers, and professional intervention does have a positive influence on a patient’s resolve to quit.

While health care professionals know the benefits of smoking cessation, they are not always informed or trained on successful intervention measures. Many are being told that nicotine replacement products such as gums, patches, inhalers or some non-nicotine medications are the current state-of-the-art.

Contrary to popular beliefs, these methods have very low success rates. No matter how much or how long a patient has smoked, they need to understand that the possibility of quitting exists for them.

We can help you to help your patients. Whether by teaching you how to approach your patients one on one during their routine exams, or by providing on-site seminars open to your patients, we can provide services making you better prepared to deal with this extremely important issue.
